They try to construct a heritage of edm bozoism from the original rave scene. But its no natural  evolution but exploitation of that original rave scene, that still globally goes strong without needing the us mainstream and any trace of typical edm music. Only true thing is that electronic dance music finally arrived in the us mainstream.. with 20 years delay.. Just as punkrock had arrived in the us mainstream with 20 years delay, 20 years ago. The problem with that is that the cultural values the original scene has developed dont survives such us mainstream exploitations very well. Bad generic music with overbearing cheasy factor and 5 cent grooves isnt really the problem..that never lasts long.. but cultural values are not that easy to develop as a better musical taste. Is that EDM audience as carring tollerant and sharing as the rave scene? Are they really dancing together at this big bozo events? Are tehy dancing at all? Dont really looks like in the youtube footage that floats around.. But dancing to the drum as cultural movement was the main initial function of the rave scene. That transformed the european societies that wasnt very dancy before the arrival of rave music. No dance just for the sake of dance…With historial reasons,  Dancing to the drum was banned by the pope around the year 1000..and this ban has shaped music culture in europe ever since.. Ever wondered why the flamenco is without drums? to dangerous to use a drum back than..burning at the stake was the punishment. The rave scene brought tribal drum dance culture back to europe.. that was the key feature. Is that happening with this big edm events too? Or is it working in the opposite direction and turning electronic dance music into a bad taste teenage thing people dont touch anymore once they get mature? Removing dance from society this way again..

I hear kinda of a foreboding tone at the end to the future of dance/electronic music….

When they say that people are gonna start figuring out that this is the same stuff over and over and that everyone is in to it….

Im pretty sure that the good stuff will outlast and arise but not if they are under a million tons of crap made from 'DJ's' like Paris Hilton and Pauly D. We need to be antibodies we need to kill that horrid, uncreative and UN-inventive shit and let the other good shit thrive!

All in all I enjoyed it, but this is certainly barely scratching the surface of electronic music. It's some watered down cliffnotes regarding the rise of electronic music in popular culture…. then again there is SO much to cover that would require much more depth than a six minute video could offer. They didn't even mention the importance of outdoor transformational festivals, the advent of experimental electronic music, the ever growing emphasis on low frequencies, the sheer VARIETY found in electronic music and the explosion of at home producers thanks to the internet… I would feel that an alternate documentary would touch on the rise of acid house, breakbeat, drum & bass, then the BASS takeover we're experiencing today. But I suppose that's a whole other story 😛

  4. Luis Pinto diyor ki:

The only thing I am sorta sad about is that many fake fans have adopted EDM. I recall being called gay for listening to what they refereed as 'techno' in the 2007 when in reality i was listening to ryu by Avicii and we all know that isn't techno.

  5. N0THANKY0U diyor ki:

You can't define the entirety of EDM as one genre. That's like calling, guitar music a genre, it's an instrument not a genre. Comparing Calvin Harris with Skream or Martin Garrix with Flume is the same as comparing Bring Me The Horizon with Django Reinhardt or Metallica with Andrs Segovia. It just doesn't make sense, they are not comparable.

  6. Chris Penny diyor ki:

Frankie Bones is right though. The sooner this "EDM bubble" bursts and everything turn to hell, the sooner this music can be reborn and the ushering of  a new renaissance of electronic music that is fresh and rooted in its history can begin. Im jealous of those that lived in the 90s, that was the peak renaissance era

  7. Chris Penny diyor ki:

Enjoyed the whole series but these last two vids pissed me off. This contemporary festival music is fucking garbage. You cant tell me with a straight face this over glamorized way over the top electro and build/drop music is good. The beauty of electronic music is due to a level of monotony and in a way , simplicity . Todays music is too much, too much noise and other effects. Its lost its essence and soul

  8. Envojus diyor ki:

EDM just makes sense. With record sales dropping due to how easy it is to acquire music nowadays, as a business, you have to sell the "experience" to make money now. While Rock and other genre concerts does include the experience, because they are established genres, you can't really add anything new to it – it's too damn difficult. Dance music is easily accessible and hasn't been touched by commercialism on such a level. You pretty much have an empty canvas and you can go "all out" on what to include to create that experience. Lets throw in 3D lighting, lasers, colours and shit. It's something new, refreshing, something older generations haven't seen. Personally, I loathe the scene – the shots in the video make me cringe. But I am grateful it exists – electronic music became more accessible, it's great seeing people learn the deeper aspects of the "genre". It's great seeing these people (even though it's still a minority) join and partake in the "underground" scene with a fresh and untainted viewpoint and create something new, something old players in the scene never thought off. To all of the elitists: don't hate EDM – if not for EDM, Techno, (real) house, jungle, glitch wouldn't be experiencing a renaissance – we're in a creative boom. Learn how to adapt and take advantage of the environment instead of whining how "EDM IS KILLING ELECTRONIC MUSIC. FUCK COMMERCIALISM".

    Peace.
