I can narrow the time frame down a little. I was TDY with ASA Jan-Oct 1974. During the war on Cyprus we took over a Brit mission and the USAF set aside some bays for us to work in. In the 4 minute area, you'll see the barracks and then two guys on the stair landing on the second floor. The guy with the beard is Muetzel. The guy on the left is me. I was totally shocked to see my 20 year old self! Thanks to whoever made this available.
My dad was Det 4-4. 70-71. I was made in Turkiye. Beautiful pics
Beautiful memories.
God bless
My old stompin grounds …
I was assigned to Det 46, USAF Dispensary, Karamursel Common Defense Installation, December 1971 – December 1973. Best assignment I had in 25 years in the USAF.
I was on Baker from 2/74-4/75. At 18 yoa fm so. Ga, it was an eye opener!
I was there in the Navy from 1971 thru 1974 Some scenes bring back memories
Thanks for the film. That was my main base but I was stationed 300 miles away at Ortakoy on the Dardenelles April '70- May '71 so was only there a few times.
Hello, I am doing an archaeological underwater research in the Karamürsel region and you can give me valuable information about that period I'm waiting for your help
. Thanks for sharing video.
2 tours at KCDI and I have to admit I loved both of them. The second one even more so as I had made more rank
by then an was more able to travel and explore the surrounding areas. First tour was in 1964 -1966, 2nd tour was
from 74 to 75.
Thank you so much. Great film, I don't remember a lot but some of the shots looked familiar and prompted some deep buried recall. I was on Able flight around 6/70 – 8/72. Ru203. I feel lucky to have had such a great assignment and met so many fine people there. and elsewhere while in USAF. Also had some fine roommates, Lou Postemski, Dan Wheeler, Lloyd Felipe in the barracks. Some more off base, Bob Johnson, Bob Monahan, Mission Miller and more . A shout out to all from Sidney Gaveldastein, humble yet proud recipient of both the Able Flight Gaffer Award and Gut Award.
I was there as an X2 Jan.70-June 71, Dawg Flt.
Very good. Thanks
My father was there in 1971 with the USAFSS . We stayed there for about two years then off to Berlin, Germany also with the USAFSS. Great memories!
the elephant cage was quite a site, i saw another one of those when i was stationed in california near the bay area. i still have the stereo component system i bought at the bx and it still works but i don't use it, anybody need it, i'll give it to ya free.
i still have a meershaum pipe but the hookah is long gone.
i was stationed there about that time april 69-november 70. i was in det 63 and worked at site#4 transmitter site about 10 miles away off the road to yalova although we lived on the base. also out at site #4 was the runway for the aircraft. i had a real good time there and the turks were very pro west back then. went on trips to istanbul, bursa, uludag for skiing and izmir and other places.
this is after my days there – sep 57 thru 59
I lived there 67 to 69 as a dependent. I recognize everything! Brings back memories.
the whole campus still remains the same layout. Look at it at google maps https://www.google.com/maps/@40.6999009,29.5323086,2020m/data=!3m1!1e3
outside of the USA , we do not say Air Force Base. We say Air Base or Air Station. I do not know why but it is what it is.
I was stationed there with the USAFSS, Det. 94, Dog Flight, as an X-2 from April 71 to October 72. Those look like Navy guys in many of those shots…beards and longer hair than we were allowed to have.
I was there on Baker Flight, Dec. 1970 thru June 1972. Many familiar sights. I read on the Internet that Bob Hope did a USO show at Karamursel in 1966.
