Really enjoyed, really enjoy Rory as well. So much makes since. We are in such a fast pace life, kids addicted to TV. So correct that so many want to homestead but keep to themselves. Here? In our small town, when the bowling alley closed, the bars got super busy. It is so sad, the "family & friends8" is lost. Sunday family lunches are gone as well

  2. Vivian Cook diyor ki:

So good! This all resonates with how I feel about the way life should be lived❤️It goes against the grain of present day society, which is self destructing. I pray more and more hearts wake up to a better way……

  3. Billie Blake diyor ki:

I don't think that our brains are made to have so much thrown at us. It's too fast. I had a no phone Sunday and I felt so much better on Monday. We use text to communicate so much, I had to tell those few who might need to reach me but they were delighted and encouraging.

Absolutely fantastic conversation. One of my favorite episodes of all time! And I’m one of those who listens to all your podcasts Jill. You really do share wisdom beyond your years and I’m grateful for your influence.

  5. Lisa Byrum diyor ki:

I agree with you both so much! I grew up without all of this technology! Many days I get so stressed by the noise of my cell phone. The ringing and texting are such an invasion in my day! I feel pressured to be "polite" and to respond quickly. There are days when I long for the calm and quietness of my youth. I am sad for my children and grandchildren! They don't understand how much fun it was to sit on the porch with my grandmother and snap beans! To go to the neighbors, who were farmers and sit on their porch in the evenings and eat cold sliced cantaloupe until we could pop! Jill and Rory, I really appreciate yours videos! Thank you both for sharing your knowledge and lives with us. A fan in Tennessee.

To answer the question, what did we do before GPS?
I think most of us did what you did of writing down directions before leaving & then, when the road doesn't make sense in real time, we pull out a map. I grew up with a map in my lap & was taught to pay attention. Where am i in relation to places & things? Where is the sun? Where is North etc..?
All good & useful skills. It feels good to use these skills. It gives independence.
GPS has its place, but not needing it & having alternatives/skills to get where you are going & home agai safely, is even better.

Sharing resources, tools and your own personal property to be a blessing, intentional and exemplify the kind of community you wanto to create, maintain and inspire.
They want us to have everything and know everything.

    Can I live on less?…
    I dont need more…
I dont want to consume everything being advertised to…

  8. A Vermont Life diyor ki:

I firmly believe that the answer to 'why' we are so depressed and suicidal and feel such meaninglessness, is down to attachment. We are wired for attachment, and yet we live in a world, a culture, that promotes competition rather than connection. We pathologize dependency and glorify autonomy. We are far from our tribal space in which we knew 100 people intimately and felt so attuned with our people, our family, even our significant other. A study from the 80s showed that people had two to three very close friends. Now, people have ONE, and that's usually their spouse. And yet we also have an epidemic rate of betrayal, affairs, and divorce. So we are left with no one but ourselves, and we are meant to be happy. Women know all to well the propaganda of fourth wave feminism, "love yourself first," "You don't need a man", "Why do you want to raise your own children?", etc. We need one another to thrive, it is biology, not pop pseudo science. Our very hearts regulate when we are close to our people. Our nervous systems calm down and only in connection are we creative and whole.

Religion ?would that 4th ?We have been slowly opting out of the traditional religious systems my husband and I grew up in and served in as adults …just not buying into the corporation ran feel of church anymore. Here in appalachia there are nastalgic little white churchs scattered about the country side …and I have noticed when people speak of those old churchs and simple church services …it transports them back to a happy place . I realized they appeal of old fashioned church is… they just came to church .worshipped. left . Very unlike modern church services where pastors are basicly CEO's ,managing worker bees that come to church and work work work in allll the classes and planning the next big event. At peoples core…they dont want all that in a church …they get entertained all week …they miss little old white churches because they where able to enjoy the simplicity .

I love this. My husband and I were just talking about a survey that I had ran across asking if you could live in any time at the age that you are now, when would it be? 87% chose the 1980’s. Why the 80’s? My husband pointed out that it was before the internet. We escaped the city and moved to rural SE Louisiana. We struggled with being able to get internet for months. I wished that it wasn’t needed. I realized then that we’ve been forced into “needing” the internet and we don’t like it. Why must we “need” the internet? We’ve started our homestead. We pray by the Grace of God that it comes together just like Rory is speaking about. God Bless you both.

  11. Matthew S diyor ki:

Old fashioned is less about the tools and equipment, and more about the mind set. Evidently big screen TV's and laptops can still fit into "old fashioned", when thought of and used properly.

I love the title of your channel. As someone who loves vacuum tube electronics, revolvers and lever actions, carburators, and classical music it really works for me. ☺️
