I both love and weep over Ani. Once western Armenia… now, basically held as a cultural snub to us, Ani is there just across the gorge. Turkey as far as I’ve seen, virtually doesn’t even bother to mention that Kars, Van and Ani were designed and built by us. It grieves me deeply. But at least they still exist and were not obliterated like what ISIS has done in so many places.

Though, you might have mentioned that the reason the borders are closed is because the Turks murdered 1.5 million of us in the first genocide of the 20th century. They don’t admit it and we won’t let them forget it. Hard to have open borders when the other side has a history of trying to wipe us out of existence.
