PSA: Canada has no embargo on Cuba, so we do get real Havana Club and other Cuban products up here.

I was struggling to make a Cuba Libre that tastes like the ones I was served in Cuba, even with Havana Club and that was because the Coke I was using was too good! Cuba doesn't have access to Coca Cola now for obvious reasons and the cola they have there is… not the same, let's leave it at that. So while a Fentimans Cola or a home made syrup makes a nicer tasting Cuba Libre, British supermarket own brand cola (that still uses cane sugar not HFCS) makes one that tastes closer to what you would actually be served in Havana nowadays.

I thought rum and coke were just okay. But once my citrus-loving butt found out about Cuba Libre I started requesting it instead (or just "rum and coke with lime *juice*"). Absolutely love it. The drink's not complete without it.

I was listening to Andrews Sisters and ended up making some "Rum and Coca Cola (Zero)". I even thought it is called cuba libre until I saw this video and well let's just say cheap ass rum and not nearly cold enough zero with no lime or lemon or unicorn farts or even ice cubes is "Rum and Coca Cola" and most certainly NOT Cuba Libre. I had to quit watching the video and will just concentrate on enjoying my 1943 Trinidad prostitute style drink like Lord Invader meant it XD

I got told to f*ck off from a bartender in Albuquerque when I ordered a Cuba Libre. First she didn't know what it was and I had to explain it to her. Now, I only order it as a rum and coke with a twist of lime or lemon.

Canadian here: just here to rub your American faces into the fact I cant get cuban rum on demand most times.. best is a rum liqueur by legendario.. got a 15 yr aged bottle once.. it didn't taste like rum or even alcohol.. dangerous stuff.
Teddy was one of the best Republican Presidents. Ike was probably the last good one. FDR and Washington and Lincoln were probably the best generally speaking.
Coca Cola pretty well has sucked since they switched to corn syrup. That whole recipe change back in the day ruined it.
