    Yo dudes!
    there is actually a very easy way to cook rice, and this goes for any (white) rice as far as I know, I use this all the time and my rice has been perfect eversince finding this method :).

    it's a 1:1 ratio of rice to water (1 cup rice equals 1 cup water).
    put your heat on medium-high without a lid,
    once your water starts boiling slightly put your heat to it's lowest setting and put the lid on your pot, make sure the pot seals tight so no air evaporates, if it doesn't seal tight put a tower inbetween the lid and pot for a tight seal.
    let it simmer for 10 minutes exactly from this point and voila, you have perfect cooked rice.

    and you have also saved some water! 🙂

    Just wanted to share a SUGAR and WHITE RICE — ALTERNATIVE. I use short grain brown rice, stirring at the 30 min mark, adding small cubed butternut squash, stir occasionally and then again at the 50 min mark. Stirring makes the rice more sticky (which you want for sushi as well as adding a sticky like mashed veg (which is the squash). It also adds the sweetness without the sugar. I do add the vinegar and salt as well. Yes the rice pot stays lidded between stirs.

    What is also nice about this, it is soft enough that you can use it straight from the fridge to add to the nori, but firm enough to roll and cut.

    1 Cup short grain brown rice (I use the Lundberg)
    1.5 Cup water
    1 C small cubbed (1/2 inch) butternut squash.
    2 Tablespoons rice vinegar
    Salt to taste

    Some things that Japanese do that you didn't are. You very slightly put in less water to cook it, so as the rice cools, it will take in the Rice seasoning. They often add Mirin to the sauce. You add that when the rice first comes out and fan it so as it cools quicker and it takes in the added liquid. The Ginger is usually used to cleanse the palate between types of sushi, not eaten with it. The Wasabi you had is more than likely Horseradish with food coloring. Real Wasabi is very rare to find outside of Japan, and is a very pale green color. And is unbelievably difficult to grow & quite expensive in it's raw form.

    That was finger lickin' good you pear.! Thanks for the sushi demo. Now I can confidently use that mat thingy I have in my drawer AND the use of picked ginger, cool. When you said three to one with the rice I though to my self, aaah no he's lost the plot! What's he doin'! Nice recovery though. The quiet mumbling to each other and the little grain of cooked rice in your hair Steve(?) just amped up the HP cuteness factor for me. lol

    Shame on me, but I never ate sushi before, so this would be a nice opportunity to try it! It looks amazing for potlucks (did you know that the 7th of august is international vegan potluck day? Well, now you know 🙂 ) and easy to make, although I can imagine that rolling it well might take some practice. Well, at least with my two left hands :'D.
