What will too much paste do. Will it affect the cpu cooling for 2much paste
Reason for this is, the excess paste actually seeped off and not piled on to affect the temperature.

This is why I always go overboard with paste. Better to make sure everything is covered especially with the toaster of the 13th gen
When i first building pc in 2008 I use plastic gift card to apply thin layer evenly, something I learn from guru3D forum back then. Now I use thermal paste applicator (yes the same from the verge video) but its just my preferences.

Too much is better than less because then there is the perfect amount of thermal paste and the rest is getting squeezed out.

Purely logical that too much thermal paste will just get squeezed out and not be of any value. Just enough to cover the CPU lid is all you need.
My cpu socket got a little bit of thermal paste and never run again so i clean it and it works now

Usually you see the dot application of thermal paste. But on some channel I saw someone allready spreading out the paste over the entire area. Isn't that just a better option to prevent to little / too much?? ( I am a beginner at this ) And what about pads vs paste? Aren't pads easier?
It is really not rocket science to understand why more thermal paste does not mean better cooling.
It is due to the fact that the little gap between the cpu and your cooling will result in a higher pressure. If the pressure is too high, the thermal paste will try to spill out of this too tight space.
Exactly like we seein the video. Basically some amount will go on the side and will get rid of this huge amount. If you somehow enclose completely your CPU with its cooler and you manage to fit all of the paste inbetween the cooler and CPU you will either :
Increase the density of the paste and thus reduce its thermal conductivity (at least for gases). For a liquid like this i honestly don't know but my hypothesis would be somewhat the same since it's more of a liquid than a solid.
Increase the space between the CPU and the cooler because you can't tight enough the mechanicsm due to the pressure. Because there are more atoms that need to be passed through to conduct heat (or cold in our case) you will simply have some sort of "lag transfer" between the actual temperature that your cooler provide and the temperature of your CPU.
Overall :
If you put too much paste it is OK, assuming that no weird interaction happens between the paste and the outside electronics (which generally don't)
Normal amount is obviously the best
Too few = bad for obvious reason but not life threatening because thermal paste are just here to conduct heat better. Not provide coolness for your CPU.

Am I the only one that would carefully spread the thermal paste evenly on the chip?
I go on the safe side and apply 5 smaller dots, 1 in the middle and 4 around it but not too close to the edge. That way it spreads better. Ive found that to be the best result. You wont have a mess of it in the middle, but a more even spread throughout.

The only correct way to apply thermal paste is a very thin even coat across the entire surface. Its purpose is to fill the air gaps that happen due to non-perfect machining process. Not to form a layer between contacting parts. 30+ years experience in engineering / testing / building and repairing military grade hardware / electronics systems including space systems.
why dont people pre spread the paste? lots of time paste comes with a small paddle to help spread out the paste before you put the cooler on.

Well too much still better than too less, because it's far worse if the CPU getting damaged or decreasing durabillity from overheat than just having a bit of a filthy mess.
I'm always drawing a square and additionally droping a little dot on the middle to make sure the whole plate is covered. Not just one drop on the middle which might not cover the whole plate by that.
Been building PC's for years, even professionally for many of those, and always found that adding a little extra (and I do mean a little, not the entire tube, like here) for piece of mind was never a bad move… To this end, I've always liked the X application style, as sometimes a dot in the middle just doesn't spread to all the corners…

My conclusion is that the temp performance is more tied to the amount of surface area covered and also how thick the application is probably also serves as a variable. So in my opinion the best would be to spread it evenly to a few millimeters away from the edge of the processor to give it room to spread a little more from the squish so it doesn't spill over. Also apply just enough so you can't see the CPU through the paste. Just enough so it's completely opaque. So essentially just a slightly smaller grey square of paste ontop of your processor.
The only thing that bad about too much thermal paste is it can be hazardous to your health if you don’t wear gloves as it can irritate your skin and extreme cases it can be carcinogenic especially when there’s thermal paste seeping from the heatsink
