  1. P B diyor ki:

Just ask yourself the following questions:

    1. Who built it?

    2. For what purpose was it built?

    3. What convention gave Turkey legitimate ownership of this landmark?

Hagia Sophia was built in Byzantium during the reign of an Orthodox Emperor (and later Orthodox Saint), Constantine the Great. After its destruction, during the Nikea riots, rebuilt, again, by an Orthodox Saint – Emperor Justinian.

Its purpose was to honour the Holy Wisdom of the Father and the Logos (GREEK translation of „Hagia Sophia“, not Turkish, nor Muslim). The 1st and 2nd person of the Holy Trinity respectively, NOT Allah. It features the typical characteristics of byzantine architecture, designed by Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles – both were GREEKS.

Also, its religious iconography and ornaments are clearly part of Orthodox heritage, as they portray Eastern Orthodox Saints (do Muslims even acknowledge them?), prophets, church-fathers and scenes from the Bible, NOT the Quran.

These are undeniable historical facts, regardless of one’s opinion, education, religion etc. Building some minarets and covering the faces of Cherubs doesn’t change 1.100 years of history. It was NEVER meant to be a mosque, nor a secularized museum. End of discussions.

Also, dear Turks, wars and plundering do not turn an intruder into a rightful heir of the defeated people’s history and culture. Just because it is located in today's Turkey, it doesn't change its entire substance. Not historically, religiously or culturally.

The UNESCO has completely failed to preserve the original character of this landmark – and one of the greatest buildings of Christianity at that. At the same time, it is a punishable offence to remove pebbles from Turkey’s beaches because they are considered a "national heritage"…

Just imagine the outrage if Christians invaded Mecca and turned the Masjid al-Haram Mosque into a Christian church!

  2. NίκοsK diyor ki:

Happy to see Αγία Σοφία well maintained and the removal of entrance fees to make this great temple accessible to the public. People of all cultures and religions should marvel at its beauty.
But I must ask a sincere question here:
Given the fact this Church was built with purpose as a place of worship and symbol for Christianity and specifically Orthodoxy, as well as the fact it has stood for over 900 years as a Christian church, shouldn’t this be reverted back to a neutral temple? I understand it is now Turkey and the temple is here, but to cover away and hide the Christian symbolism and ethos of this church so that it can be turned in to a Mosque almost feels fake and tarnishes the heritage of the church. Don’t we build better relations and corporate better with people by finding a middle ground for our differences?

  3. zahir hussain diyor ki:

The fact is that during the last months of Byzantine Constantinople, the Great Church had been avoided by the pious

    Orthodox,

who had concluded that their cathedral had been

contaminated by Catholic rites during the celebration of the

union between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches in December 1452……. After the celebration of the union, the church

never functioned properly and was regarded as the abode of
demons and as a pagan temple,

" and the Great Church was considered by them to be a refuge of
demons and a Hellenic temple. Where were the candles? Where
was the oil for the lamps? Everything was in darkness and there
was no one to prevent it………..Santa Sophia became a focal
point for the Greeks only after the Turks entered the city, when the population flocked there in search of asylum. "

So , the Aya Sofia not stolen by muslims. That building ( Hagia Sophia ) was abandoned by orthodox patriarch and people.
    Muslim rulers took abandoned building.

  4. zahir hussain diyor ki:

" Anatolia was the heartland of the Byzantine Empire, the Christian and predominantly Greek-speaking continuation of the Roman Empire in its eastern province."
    Book – A history of Ottoman Architecture . Page-1

It shows us that Anatolia ( today turkey ) people once Greek Christians. After they embraced Islam, now Greek muslims.
    Race- Greek
    Religion – muslim
But western catholic historian liars saying," Turks not European"
The liars playing with word "Turks ".

  5. zahir hussain diyor ki:

building was church. Land belongs to temple before church.
After victory of Constantinople,it was in the status of "enemy 's property".
Enemy 's property belongs to winner ie Turks. They followed the rules as per the constantine the great.
After victory, Constantine the great demolished pagan temple and build the Hagia Sophia church.
They Turks muslim didn't demolish the church.they just changed the status of hagia Sofia. Be thankful to Turks.
