Gold standard is not an indicator of economic output, having your currency backed by gold doesn't mean you can produce high end products, advance machinery etc. Let's not mention that inflation it's a law that cannot be tempered with in the long run, so if more more countries buy gold, and fill their central banks with gold to back up their currency, this might push the price up for moment, but eventually gold will go down in value, any product on earth, the more you find, and the more exists, that will lower it's value, and that is available also for gold.
