I was sad that you couldn't differentiate between expensive and the knock off of thos brand. You need to do it sober to differentiate between a brandy based and a liquor based. Two dond need to be included.

Since you`ve tried the Absolut Citron, it might be interesting to try the Absolut Mandrin, which is a tagerine flavored vodka. It has no addition of sugar, but it has a subtle hint of sweetness there, perhaps a trick played by our taste memory. This will be much closer to those orange liqueurs. I like to use these flavored vodkas to give a different flavor note to certain drinks, as for example in a tangerine caipirinha (the main spirit is cachaça) with pepper, by adding maybe 20 ml of Absolut Mandrin and just a dash of Absolut Peppar to give it a subtle spicy note (it`s important to use just a little bit of that last ingredient, as if one uses just a little more, the drink is ruined. By the way, it would be great to see you doing a show on cachaça, if you can get some good ones.

I find it interesting to note that grand marnier is with a cognac base as opposed to the brandy base you mentioned for curaçao which might explain why it tastes so different from the other ones you drank on that episode

Triple Sec = distilled 3 times
1. make brandy – distill.
2.infuse brandy with orange peels, then distill this mix.
3. Mix brandy / botanicals mix with … Cognac ( also distilled = three times distilled 2+1)
Formula of Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao….which does not taste dry, it tastes sweet……..My favorite for Cocktails.
Grand Marnier is similar.
Cointreau is made of beet sugar for base Alc. …EEuwww…..!

Sorry for the correction, curaçao is made from the laraha orange, a derivitive of the seville orange, not the valencia

Whoa, wait a minute, hold up: if Curaçao is more sweet and Triple Sec is less sweet – you just said at 4:22 that Cointreau is the Triple Sec style less sweet variety? The first time I had Cointreau I said, out loud, "this is liquid candy". That's the less sweet? Seriously? If Cointreau the triple sec less sweet variety and Grand Marnier is the Curaçao more sweet – than apparently you're biggest concern with drinking a whole bottle of Grand Marnier isn't alcohol poisoning – it's whether or not your foot is gonna fall off from spontaneous diabetes.
